I’m the kind of gal who likes wearing a new dress to an event. I’m also the kind of gal who’s low on funds. Thankfully I love the thrill of the thrift store hunt and I can sew.
Picked this beauty up sometime last year for about $1.95. I like buying dresses and shirts from the thrift store which are under $5 ( usually in the $2 range), are made of great fabric but the cut is a bit dated or what not and needs some love; I like the challenge figuring out a way to rework the piece and make it fashionable again. This means I have half a closet full of garments in need of a make over. I like to think that I’ll have the time to rework them all and put them for sale online but in reality I have made very little time for personal sewing which means that it takes needing a garment for an event, like say a wedding, to get me behind the machine.
I tried looking at my fav consignment stores to see if anything there struck my fancy but to no avail. So that meant in the days (literally the 3 nights before I had to leave) I chopped this puppy up and gave it a new life.
In all I removed the sailor collar, moved the bottom ruffle to the middle, elongated the waist by placing the collar fabric there and reshaped the neck and arm holes. It still has the quirky feel of the late 80s/early 90s but with a more flattering silhouette. And ruffles. I like ruffles *shakes bottom to move ruffles*
