I’m the kind of gal who likes wearing a new dress to an event. I’m also the kind of gal who’s low on funds. Thankfully I love the thrill of the thrift store hunt and I can sew.

Picked this beauty up sometime last year for about $1.95. I like buying dresses and shirts from the thrift store which are under $5 ( usually in the $2 range), are made of great fabric but the cut is a bit dated or what not and needs some love; I like the challenge figuring out a way to rework the piece and make it fashionable again. This means I have half a closet full of garments in need of a make over. I like to think that I’ll have the time to rework them all and put them for sale online but in reality I have made very little time for personal sewing which means that it takes needing a garment for an event, like say a wedding, to get me behind the machine.

I tried looking at my fav consignment stores to see if anything there struck my fancy but to no avail. So that meant in the days (literally the 3 nights before I had to leave) I chopped this puppy up and gave it a new life.

In all I removed the sailor collar, moved the bottom ruffle to the middle, elongated the waist by placing the collar fabric there and reshaped the neck and arm holes. It still has the quirky feel of the late 80s/early 90s but with a more flattering silhouette. And ruffles. I like ruffles *shakes bottom to move ruffles*

Downtown Dallas from Deep Ellum
So for the second year now I’ve found myself to be in a position were I’m able to take a nighttime photo of downtown Dallas on May 1st.
I might have to make it a tradition.

About this post:
“Such a wonderful experience at Go West Fest at the Nest. Great artists, bands and the chance to photograph wetplate images (tintypes) on location.
As described during our shoots, the heat wrecked havoc with the final plates, causing a fogging in the shadow and midtone areas. These digital files are heavily retouched and are not indicative of the final plates. Plates may be purchased for $45 and a final, exhibition quality print (6.8x8 inches) may also be purchased at $45. Email me and I will send you a jpg image suitable for facebook posts, etc. free of charge.
Stay tuned for more interesting projects and art installations. One day workshops are also available and trust me, the plates will look much better in a controlled environment!

Periods of Dress: chronological, plain & simple

Very rarely do I reblog. This HAS to be shared. Thank you for clearly laying things out

Once and for all…

I seldom browse era tags on tumblr because I get a very great desire to reblog every mislabeled post and scream at the OP. But that would be overly aggressive, and if I’m going to be aggressive, I’d rather be passive-aggressive. Anyway, hopefully if I tag this with every conceivable era people might see it and learn something. Cause knowledge is power! Or, being a dumbass is bad. Whichever you prefer.

 Kapeesh?

(via hoop-skirts-and-corsets)

Goodness it has been a very long while since a proper post. Lots of things from then till now, alas not many personal artistic ones.

I am quiet proud of having a hand in last falls production of EX VOTO:  THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF FRIDA KAHLO

The Ochre House is a wonderful indi theatre here in Dallas and then needed a bit of help with creating the backdrops for this production. The extremely talented Lucy Kirkman painted the majority of them, but I was lucky enough recreate two of them.

The first one was The Two Fridas, the second Self Portrait 1926. I was really excited to be able to do the 1926 one since I had based one of my own paintings on it back in 2005.

So I’m thinking of developing a lingerie line for sizes AA-B. Got the name and plenty of ideas floating around, think I could have a full fledge company on the next 3 years? (Taken with instagram)
